I've decided that my film opening is going to be from a romance film. I choose this genre because whenever I watch a romance movie, it makes me feel so good, especially now, while i'm having my own new experiences with love and whatnot. Romance movies, with both happy and sad endings, make me feel as though I have a chance at that type of love. The opening scene to a romance movie is almost as important as the entire movie itself. The first romance movie that comes to mind that exemplifies the characteristics of a romance movie is "La La Land". "La La Land" is a romantic musical so its opening scene is filled with song and dance. It starts with a freeway, backed up with traffic, and you can hear all the different types of music playing from the cars. As the scene moves along, all the travelers get out of there cars and start singing about how they met someone and how their lives have carried on since then. It finally ends when the two main characters, Sebastian and Mia, come into road rage with each other. It's the perfect set up, because the two should unlikely ever meet again. However this is not the case and the movie then goes on to how they unite through their struggles of being young adults and trying to make their busy lives revolve around the two of them. I was drawn in to watch the rest of the movie because the opening scene had shown me that two ordinary strangers could somehow meet in the most unpredictable way. The next movie I believe exemplifies the characteristics of a good romance film is "To All The Boys I Loved Before." This movie is probably my favorite in this genre. The scene opens to a teen girl narrating over a beautiful mountain top, where all you can see is bright green forest and rolling mountains. She's quoting a book called The Forbidden Kiss." The scene then brings you to a young girl walking in a bright green, grass field, her hand hovering through the brush as she walks. It changes to a boy, obviously good looking and it seems that they are in love. The narration is talking about how they could not be lovers because he is married to her sister. A close up shot is shown of the girl then being hit in the face with a pillow, which wakes her up from her imagination. She sits up in bed and meets her younger sister. The scene is powerful because it displays all the different types of romantic emotion to the viewer. This scene had already grabbed my attention the moment it started, and makes the rest of the movie even better.
